Have you ever come across a confused, anxious or insecure kid? How about one that is carefree, confident, & clear? What stands out & why do some fall into the first group & some into the second?
As a parent of two girls, I couldn’t help but find myself asking these questions as I sat on the sidelines of sporting events, parent/teacher conferences or the dinner table contemplating what I had observed or overheard among a group of children interacting with each other.
The difference…. RPG (resilience, perseverance & grit)! Like every other human trait, some of our youth are born with a natural predisposition, some encounter environmental advantages & some have the fortune of benefiting from a support system to nurture the qualities over time, but what else would be possible if the playing field was level for all?
The Problem
While every generation has experienced their own set of cultural challenges (civil rights, drug trade, internet, terrorism, great recession, etc.), never before has there been a series of complicated issues converging at the same time. Gen Z (individuals born after 1997), face a “crisis of readiness” as society keeps moving quicker & expectations continue to rise. Youth today find themselves inside a perfect storm of over-stimulation, future uncertainty & deteriorating trust that has reached a saturation point, thus forcing many to either retreat into isolation or stumble along in confusion amid this dangerous, new norm.
All this begs the question…. How can we make a complex world, simple again?

Power On is a Youth Empowerment Non-Profit which believes that all individuals have the potential thrive in school and in life, but there is a void in education that focuses on empowering children and supporting their social-emotional health. We solve this problem by working with schools, youth groups & communities to provide a holistic approach to helping youth discover and leverage their intrinsic strengths. The programs are designed by a team of seasoned educators and self-development experts determined to change the way we evaluate each other and ourselves. We take youth on a journey of self-discovery, helping them tap into their inner-strengths, authentic selves, unique potential and purpose.

For just $20 a month, you will be helping one kid life their best life possible. Because of your generous contribution, each youth recipient will be awarded an opportunity to participate in a 2-day emersion experience that will foster an understanding of themselves, their inner strengths & how to leverage their gifts to better themselves and the world as a whole. As part of this tax-deductible donation, you will receive updates on the progress of the entire group of youth & how your investment has impacted their life.
My greatest fear is that my two daughters could possibly grow up not having reached their full potential! Not because they are unloved or misguided, but because the world is a big place and the choices & decisions that we make as individuals are complex and confusing, while the consequences can be life altering.
